Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team made the most of its final regular-season home appearance of the season, shutting out Simpson College 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at Springer Field.
It was the ninth shutout of the season for the Pioneers, who improved to 10-5-1. Simpson dipped to 4-13-1.
Jordan Young '14 played the entire contest at keeper for Grinnell and recorded three saves.
The Pioneers' goal was scored in the 30th minute by
Patty Murphy-Geiss '14, her team-leading seventh score of the season. On the play,
Hannah Safter '14 sent a through ball to
Pauline Zheng '14, who dribbled and passed to Murphy-Geiss. Murphy-Geiss worked past the keeper and blasted a shot to the left corner of the net for the goal.
Grinnell won the shots battle 9-7, with
Eva Smith '16, Murphy-Geiss, Zheng,
Claire Ruegg '16,
Abby Jaeger '14, Nora Bresette-Buccino '16,
Hannah Truesdale '16, Mackenzie Shanahan '14 and
Dabney Hofammann '15 taking one each.
The Pioneers conclude the regular season with key Midwest Conference road contests this weekend. They play at Lawrence University Saturday and St. Norbert College Sunday, both with 11 a.m. start times.
