Grinnell football team falls to Carroll

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College football team lost a 37-0 decision to Carroll University Saturday afternoon at Rosenbloom Field.

David Ternes '15 had another big defensive game for the hosts, coming up with 18 tackles while Kevin Hwang '14 had 14 to go along with two interceptions. Hwang now has four pickoffs of the year.

Jeremy Wiles '14 and Jacob Beecher '16 had 11 tackles apiece.

Offensively, Sam Poulos '16 completed 11 passes for 125 yards and Greg Ruzich '16 had three catches for 61 yards.

After a scoreless first period, Carroll scored three times in the second period for a 21-0 halftime lead. Grinnell did drive to Carroll's 18-yard line late in the second period, but a field goal try was blocked.

The Pioneers also had a nice drive in the third period that eventually stalled at Carroll's 35-yard line. In the fourth quarter, Carroll got a pair of touchdowns and safety to secure the win.

Grinnell fell to 1-5 in the Midwest Conference and 1-6 overall, while Carroll moved to 3-3 in the league and 4-3 overall.

The Pioneers play at Lawrence University next Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
