DE PERE, Wis. – The Grinnell College women's soccer team heads to St. Norbert College to take on the Green Knights in the semifinals of the 2013 Midwest Conference Tournament Friday.
The contest between the fourth-seeded Pioneers and top-seeded hosts is slated for 2 p.m. Second-seeded Monmouth College and third-seeded Lake Forest College meet at 11 a.m.
The winners meet in the title contest at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the winner earning an automatic spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships.
This is Grinnell's third trip in a row to the conference tourney and 13th in the last 15 seasons.
Grinnell enters Friday's matchup with an 11-6-1 overall record and going 6-3-1 in league play.
Patty Murphy-Geiss '14 leads Grinnell's offense with seven goals and five assists, while
Nora Sahel '167 has five goals and
Eva Smith '16,
Kristen Stacey '16 and
Hannah Safter '14 three apiece.
Smith and
Abby Jaeger '14 have four assists apiece.
Jordan Young '14 and
Katy Oldach '16 have split time at keeper for Grinnell. Young has a 0.95 goals against average and .811 saves percentage, while Oldach has a 0.39 goals against average and .889 saves percentage.
St. Norbert is 12-4-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference. Katie Vanden Avond leads the conference in goals with 32. Kaitlin Schmitz has seven goals and eight assists.
Keeper Sarah Platzer has a 1.24 goals against average and .747 saves percentage.
