Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – Despite winning the shots battle, the Grinnell College women's soccer team dropped its season opener 1-0 to the University of Dubuque on a steamy Friday at Springer Field.

Dubuque got the lone goal in the 32nd minute of the game.

Grinnell outshot the visitors 8-5, with Carolyn Silverman '17 taking two of those shots and Patty Murphy-Geiss '14, Sarah Jensen '15, Hannah Safter '14, Maddie Gray '16, Eva Smith '16 and Izzie Pfeiffer '16 getting one each.

Jordan Young '14 played the first half at keeper for the Pioneers and had two saves. Katy Oldach '16 played the final 45 minutes.

The Pioneers are back at it Saturday, hosting Blackburn College at 1 p.m.
