Box Score INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's soccer team helped usher in Kirsten Russell's debut as head coach on an exciting note Friday night, as the Pioneers stopped Simpson College 2-1 in double overtime.
 
Dabney Hofammann '15 scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute to push the Pioneers to 1-0 on the season.
 
Grinnell grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half when Carolyn Silverman '17 scored in the 39th minute on an assist by Nora Sahel '17. The score remained the same until Simpson scored 8 seconds before the end of regulation.
 
Keeper Katy Oldach '16 was stellar at keeper for Grinnell, recording a pair of saves while giving up just one goal.
 
Grinnell got off seven shots in the game, including two by Eva Smith '16 and Silverman. Kristen Stacey '16, Elle Silverman '15 and Hofammann had one each.
 
Grinnell will play its alumnae game on Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. at Springer Field.
