Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College women's soccer coach
Kirsten Koester was looking for her squad to begin the 2017 on a strong note.
Mission accomplished.
The Pioneers dominated the entire contest with Simpson College Friday and finished with a 2-0 victory at Springer Field.
Valencia Alvarez '20 and
Francesca Varias '18 each had goals for the Pioneers, and
Regan Kasprak '19 earned her seventh career shutout at keeper.
Alvarez gave Grinnell all the scoring it needed in the 16th minute. On the play, she fired a nice shot from deep on the right side which landed in the top left corner of the net. It was the third goal of her career.
Varias added a goal in the 55th minute. She beat a Storm player to the ball, took it up the right side, pulled back and delivered a nice shot into the upper right corner. That marked her fourth career goal.
Grinnell outshot the Storm 19-5, with
Jordan Maddaus '19 recording five shots, Varias three and
Simona Bambi '20, Alvarez and
Esmé Kayim-Yanko '21 two each.
