Justin Weiland joins Grinnell women's basketball coaching staff

GRINNELL, Iowa - Justin Weiland will join the Grinnell College women's basketball program as an assistant coach beginning this summer.

Weiland has served as assistant women's coach at Upper Iowa University in Fayette the past two seasons after holding a similar post at Bemidji State University in Minnesota the previous season.

Weiland was at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls prior to that, serving as assistant women's coach in 2016-17 before being promoted to head coach for the 2017-18 campaign. During his time in Ellsworth, Weiland coached four All-Region players including two first-teamers.

He got his first taste of coaching with the Milwaukee-based AAU team, WBA Prestige. During his three years with the organization, Weiland was able to recruit 30 top players in the Milwaukee-Waukesha area. His teams won a pair of AAU national tournament championships.

Weiland attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he was a practice player with the women's basketball team during the 2014-15 season. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2015.

"I'm really excited to welcome Justin onto our coaching staff," said Grinnell head coach Dana Harrold. "We think he will be a good fit for our program and are looking forward to working with him as we resume back to normalcy. Justin brings strong experience in recruiting and in on-court coaching, so it will be great to have him on board."
