GC women's swimming and diving team captures win at Coe in season opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Grinnell College's Sophia Carroll '25 and Sophie Juethner '26 enjoyed triple-victory performances in the Pioneer women's swimming and diving team's season-opening 159-65 win at Coe College Friday night.


Carroll was first in the 200-yard and 500 freestyles with times of 2:02.29 and 5:33.01, respectively, while Juethner won the 50 freestyle in 25.41 and 100 freestyle in 56.29. They both were on the champion 200 freestyle relay team with November Brown '23 and Greta Dunn '26, swimming 1:42.61.

Eva Cuevas '25 took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66) and 200 individual medley (2:20.78), while Camryn Gonzales '25 won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.42. Brown, Gonzales, Olivia Klein '24 and Kailee Shermak '25 won the 200 medley relay in 1:54.52.

Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Dunn in the 1000 freestyle (12:07.05), Shermak in the 200 freestyle (2:07.73), Brown in the 50 freestyle (25.78), Regan Stambaugh '26 in the 200 individual medley (2:24.07), Sarah Lopez '26 in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle (1:01.08 and 2:07.73), Maria Rossi '25 in 1-meter diving (138.90), Aliya Swearngin '25 in the 100 freestyle (58.28), Gonzales in the 100 backstroke (1:04.35) and Andi Fox '23 in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.12).

Grinnell hosts Iowa Central Community College Saturday at 1 p.m.
