WAVERLY, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's soccer team is set for its first NCAA Division III Tournament game since 2006, as the Pioneers face 17
th-ranked Wartburg College on the Knights' pitch Saturday.
The contest between the 11-2-5 Pioneers and 15-2-2 Knights is at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a contest featuring Washington University of St. Louis and St. Catherine University.
Grinnell, which has lost just once in its last 14 outings, is the Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament champion. Wartburg made the NCAA field via an at-large berth.
Defense has been the name of the game for Grinnell this season, as the Pioneers have given up just 14 scores for a goals against average of 0.78.
Elinor Arneson '23 has played most of the minutes in goal, recording eight shutouts with a 0.86 goals against average and .803 saves percentage.
Offensively,
Jane March '24 and
Tori Thomas '25 have four goals and
Jill Paladino '23 and
Keiko Smith '25 have three. Paladino,
Reese Komsthoeft '25 and
Giada Bambi '25 have three assists each.
Wartburg has been a scoring machine with 53 goals while giving up just 11. Kate Luers leads the team with 11 scores, Katie Berglund has eight and Joy Smith seven. Luers also leads the team in assists with five, while Smith, Sarah Campbell, Lauren Kirkle and Mya Jensen have four apiece.
Marissa Lopez has played the entire team in goal, posting a 0.57 goals against average and .855 saves percentage.
