LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Grinnell College's women's soccer team will look to defend its Midwest Conference Tournament title when it takes the pitch this weekend at the league's four-team event at Lake Forest.
The Pioneers are the second seed in the event after going 5-0-3 in league play and posting a 9-3-5 overall record. They will play third-seeded Lawrence University, which is 5-1-2 in the MWC and 6-5-4 overall, at 2 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Grinnell and Lawrence battled to a 1-all draw last Saturday in Grinnell.
Defense has been the name of the game for Grinnell, as the Pioneers lead the league in goals against with just three in MWC play. They have scored 21 goals, which ranks second in the conference. Lawrence is tied for second in goals against with five and ranks third in goals scored with 20.
The other semifinal pits top-seeded Lake Forest College and fourth-seeded Beloit College. The winners play Saturday for the tourney title and automatic NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
