GRINNELL, Iowa – For the sixth time in the last seven years, Grinnell College has led all league schools in
Midwest Conference All-Academic Team honorees with 260.
Grinnell's total in the 2022-23 academic year consisted of 343 actual awards, with some student-athletes earning Academic All-Conference honors in two or three sports. Illinois College was a distant second behind Grinnell's 260 honorees with 171 and Ripon College third with 167.
The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference selection includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in any of the MWC's fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.
Grinnell's dominance can be seen in the fact the Pioneers led the league in Academic All-Conference selections in 14 of the 18 sponsored sports. Those included men's cross country (15), women's cross country (17), men's soccer (25), women's soccer (19), women's tennis (14), volleyball (15), men's basketball (18), men's indoor track and field (24), women's indoor track and field (26), men's swimming and diving (17), women's swimming and diving (26), men's tennis (eight), men's outdoor track and field (23) and women's outdoor track and field (28).
The Pioneers also had the most Academic All-Conference selections in all three sports seasons, with 121 in the fall, 122 in the winter and 100 in the spring.
