Pioneer women's soccer team travels to Lake Forest for MWC Tourney

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College's women's soccer team gave unbeaten Lake Forest College one of its best tests of the season in late October.


The Pioneers will get another chance at Lake Forest, a team receiving votes for the national rankings, when the two meet in the Midwest Conference Tournament semifinals Friday morning. The contest, at Lake Forest's Mohr Field, is set for 11 a.m.

Grinnell, the fourth seed, went 3-3-2 in league play and is 6-7-4 overall. The Pioneers were tough defensively all season and rank fourth in the league with a 1.00 goals against average. Offensively, Grinnell scores 1.125 goals a match in league play. Keeper Peyton Dixon '27 leads the conference in shutouts with four and is fourth in goals against average with 1.000 per match. Keiko Smith '26 is eighth in the league in assists with three and 10th in shots with 19. 

Lake Forest, the top seed in the event, is 8-0 in the league and 18-0 in all matches. Annia Gracia and Anna Hoffman lead the league with seven goals. The Foresters' Joanna Aslanides ranks second in the MWC in goals against average with a .581 goals against average and also has three shutouts. 

The winner of Friday's match plays either second-seeded Illinois College or third-seeded Lawrence University in the title match.at 1 p.m. Saturday. That winner earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
