GC women's track and field team dominates the field at own Grinnell Invitational

Pioneers pile up 172 points to easily win crown

GRINNELL, Iowa - The home oval proved more than favorable to the Grinnell College women's track and field team Saturday.


Hosting the Grinnell Invitational in the Bear Center Field House, the Pioneers were nothing short of amazing as they piled up 172 points to easily win the title at the 12-team event. Two Midwest Conference foes, Illinois College and Monmouth College, were a distant second and third with 111 points and 87, respectively.

It was a great meet overall for the Pioneers, as the men also won the team title in their division.

Grinnell's women rode the good fortune of six event victories, including a meet-record performance by the 1600-meter sprint medley relay team of Lily Mayo '28, Ava Taylor '25, Maile Crowe '25 and Tennyson Shultz '28. Their time of 4 minutes, 22.80 seconds ranks sixth in program history.

Hannah Roark '26 raced to titles in the 800 and mile in times of 2:23.91 and 5:15.89, respectively. Her time in the mile is fourth in program history and her 800 clocking is sixth.

Hannah Roth '27 won the 3000 in 11:03.52, Cindy Wang '28 took first in the 5000 in 20:11.12 and Mayo won the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters, which ranks fourth in program history.

Runners-up for Grinnell were Noelle Vu '28 in the 800 (2:25.39), Shultz in the mile (5:31.31) and Mayo in the long jump (4.94 meters). Vu's time ranks ninth in program history. Placing third were Klaire Thompson '27 in the 400 (1:05.82), Genevieve Madigan '28 in the mile (5:33.02), Katya Lackey '27 in the 3000 (11:51.81), Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 in the 5000 (20:23.52) and the 4x400 relay team of Beatrice Ebel '28, Caitlin Ong '26, Josie Shiraz '28 and Vu (4:23.66).

Fourth place went to Sindri Bonner '28 in the 800 (2:31.94), Quinby Rainey '27 in the 3000 (11:57.99) and Rajanea Landers '28 in the triple jump (9.63 meters). The Pioneers had six fifth-place finishers - Jessica Goodman '26 in the 60 hurdles (10.72), Ong in the 400 (1:07.63), Ebel in the 800 (2:34.14), Bonner in the mile (5:33.29), Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 in the long jump (4.58 meters) and Melanie Oden '25 in the triple jump (9.21 meters).

Landers was sixth in the 200 with a time of 27.25, which ranks sixth in program history. Also placing sixth were Rowan Divadeenam '27 in the 3000 with a time of 12:24.05, Diana Barba '26 in the 5000 with a clocking of 21:34.48 and Leah Barringer '28 in the pole vault with a leap of 2.40 meters.
