Grinnell women's track and field team makes most of beautiful April day at home meet

Pioneers claim 8 event titles at Dick Young Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa - Taking advantage of a beautiful spring day, Grinnell College's women's track and field team had a banner performance at its own Dick Young Classic Saturday.


The Pioneers collected eight event victories at the Darren Young Track and Field Complex, including seven of the individual variety.

Champs were Maile Crowe '25 in the 200-meter dash (26.61 seconds), Tennyson Shultz '28 in the 800 (2:21.08), Genevieve Madigan '28 in the 1500 (4:58.66), Jessica Goodman '26 in the 400 hurdles (1:12.65), Crystal Kaczmarczyk '25 in the 3000 steeplechase (12:10.00), Rajanea Landers '28 in the triple jump (10.44 meters) and Juniper Schwartzman '27 in the javelin (33.91 meters). Kaczmarczyk's performance in the steeplechase ranks 10th all-time at Grinnell.

Grinnell's other victory came from the 4x100 relay team of Goodman, Ava Taylor '25, Crowe and Landers. Their time of 50.08 ranks third in GC history.

Grinnell had impressive showings in the 800 and 1500. In the 1500, Grinnell went second through seventh with Hannah Roth '27 (5:05.24), Cindy Wang '28 (5:05.71), Beatrice Ebel '28 (5:06.22), Diana Barba '26 (5:12.71), Talia Harrison '26 (5:13.87) and Allison Rabbani '25 (5:14.35). Sindri Bonner '28 was second in the 800 in 2:24.13, Noelle Vu '28 placed fourth in 2:27.33, Ebel was seventh in 2:31.37 and Kaczmarczyk placed eighth in 2:33.87.

Eleanor Elliott-Rude '25 was second in the long jump with a leap of 4.53 meters, Melanie Oden '25 placed fifth at 4.37 and Leah Barringer '28 took eighth at 3.98. Oden was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 9.45 meters and Kylie Galowitz '26 placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.83.

Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 placed second in the 3000 steeplechase in 12:22.47, Taylor took fourth in the 100 in 12.87 and Goodman was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.72. Also, the 4x400 relay team of Klaire Thompson '27, Brooke Kreeger '27, Rabbani and Rowan Divadeenam '27 placed third in 4:22.45.
