Grinnell women take advantage of home oval to grab big lead at MWC Indoor Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's track and field team took advantage of the home oval Friday, bursting out to a huge lead on the opening day of the 2026 Midwest Conference Indoor Championships at the Bear Center Field House.


Grinnell has 72 points after the first day, well ahead of runner-up Ripon College's total of 55.5.

The Pioneers finished the day in style, setting a school record in the 4x200-meter relay as Keelin Swisher '29, Kate Solano '29, Jessie Goodman '26 and Rajanea Landers '28 were runners-up in 1 minute, 46.48 seconds. That beat the school record of 1:47.00 established last year.

Grinnell got one event victory Friday, that coming from Hannah Roark '26 in the mile. She ran 5:03.01, missing the meet record by less than 2 seconds. Also in that race, Sindri Bonner '28 took sixth in 5:18.17.

The Pioneers had big showings in the long jump, high jump and 5000. Steph Kama-Kama '28 was runner-up in the long jump at 5.26 meters, third all-time at Grinnell. Landers placed third at 5.20 meters, fourth all-time, and Lily Mayo '28 was seventh with a jump of 4.83.

Kirsten Kelly '29 was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters, which ranks seventh in GC history. Mayo was fifth at 1.45 and Kama-Kama placed sixth at the same height.

In the 5000, Morgan Karow '26 finished fourth in 18:00.06. That ranks fourth in GC history. Talia Harrison '26 took fifth in 18:26.56, seventh on the Pioneers' all-time chart, while Hannah Roth '27 placed eighth in 19:01.15.

The sprint medley relay unit of Swisher, Landers, Solano and Tennyson Shultz '28 placed second in 4:20.02. That time ranks seventh all-time at Grinnell.

Kylie Galowitz '26 placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.49 meters. Goodman and Mayo qualified fourth and eighth for the 60 hurdle finals with times of 9.98 and 10.52, respectively. Mayo's time is eighth all-time at Grinnell. In the 60, Swisher qualified fifth for the finals in 8.10.

The meet continues Saturday.
